Loan Periods & Item Limits

Books

Faculty, Graduates, Undergraduates, Staff, Retirees: 180 day loan period renewable 5 times unless requested by another borrower.  300 items.

Community Borrowers: 30 day loan renewable twice unless requested by another borrower.  25 items.

Media

All DVD and VHS tapes circulate for 180 days unless on reserve.  Fines: $1 per day; maximum of $15

Printing

Anyone (including visitors) can print to any campus print station, using a mobile device, a Web browser, the cloud (e.g., Google Drive, Blackboard, or OneDrive), a USB drive, or a computer. All information on printing is available at print.uconn.edu

Request Service (Paging)

Books can be paged and held for patrons at all campus libraries using Request in Primo (search.lib.uconn.edu/).  Patrons must be logged in in order to see the Request option.  More information and instructions: https://lib.uconn.edu/services/request-uconn-items/

Community Borrower Program

Community borrowers can check out 25 books at a time for 30 days.  Books can be renewed twice unless requested by another borrower.  Borrowers can use the online Request Service to request items at other campus libraries, but full use of Interlibrary Loan services is not permitted.  Community Borrowers also cannot check out gadgets or use licensed electronic resources off-campus.

Eligibility: Apply in person for a Community Borrowers card (Note: for Storrs campus, applications are available only in the Homer Babbidge Library) and present proof of one of the following eligibility requirements:

  • CT Resident,
  • Current member of the UConn Alumni Association,
  • Registered students of the CT State University system or the CT Community/Technical College systems (privileges are granted on a semester-by-semester basis. Proof of registration for the current semester is required, such as a paid fee bill or a valid home institution ID),
  • Faculty of the CT State University system and the CT Community/Technical College system (privileges are granted on an annual basis. Valid home institution ID is required),
  • Spouses or domestic partners of UConn faculty or staff (privileges are granted on an annual basis. Proof of same address as spouse or partner is required).
