Navigating the Publishing Landscape SeriesIn a rapidly changing academic landscape, researchers face challenges navigating publishing and meeting funder requirements about public access to research. This series of four workshops offers UConn and UConn Health researchers up-to-date and in-depth information and resources for figuring out where and how to publish their work.

These workshops are suitable for researchers at all career stages who want to take proactive steps to learn about recent trends and challenges in scholarly publishing. 

Workshop 1: Author Agreements and Creative Commons Licenses

  • Negotiate terms of publishing
  • Use author addenda to protect an author's rights to their work
  • Select appropriate Creative Common licenses

Workshop 2: Article Processing Charges and Open Access

  • Define open access publishing models
  • Find support for Article Processing Charges (APCs)
  • Meet funder requirements for public access to research

Workshop 3: Evaluating Journal Metrics and Identifying Trusted Publishers

  • Decode the most common journal metrics
  • Understand the real differences between Impact Factor, JCI, CiteScore, and Google Scholar metrics
  • Identify trustworthy journals (and spot the red flags of deceptive publishers)
  • Use UConn Library tools to choose journals strategically and confidently

Workshop 4: Discipline-Specific Publishing

  • Navigate discipline-specific publishing challenges
  • Work with a subject-specialist librarian to support the publishing process
