Geography Subject Guide — Using the Library Catalog to Find Books, Articles, and Videos

Use the UConn Library General Search to look for books, articles, videos, etc.

The UConn Library general search tool locates books owned by the library, as well as videos, ebooks, journals, and journal articles. If you are starting your research, are unfamiliar with your topic, or want a broad overview of your topic, the general search is a fantastic place to begin. You can use the advanced search or "refine my results" column to further narrow down your research to scholarly articles, a type of material, date range, etc.

For tips on how to use the library's search, check out this video below!

Video Streams

The UConn Library provides access to tens of thousands of streaming videos through our catalog. Additionally, faculty can request an individual stream for a course. The Library will make every effort to license the stream if available and within budget.  Please submit a request to purchase. It can take up to three weeks to process a streaming request - please plan accordingly.

The best way to find streaming videos is to search the Library's catalog.

  • Go to the library catalog and conduct your search.
  • Use Refine my results to choose Availability = Full Text Online and Resource Type = Video Recordings
