DMD - Digital Media and Design Subject Guide

This guide will provide you a list of resources in the UConn Library related to Digital Media and Design

Games in the Babbidge Library

Course materials such as board games, video games, and consoles are available for one-day checkout. The Babbage Library has several break-out rooms with tables and televisions for playing games in the library. If you use a common area, please refer to the library map and obey the rules posted in the quiet area. Sometimes, we forget to moderate our volume when engaged in gaming.

  • All material is on reserve for registered DMD 2500 students. Playing these games with your classmates is highly encouraged so that everyone has a chance. However, you may also invite other UConn students to participate in a play session. It is your responsibility to inform other players how to respect our materials.
  • Please keep food and drink away from the play area when using the materials.
  • Although controllers are supplied, you must provide your AA batteries or bring your XBox Series X controller.
  • At the end of your play session, log off of any accounts and treat the consoles as public computers. Return tabletop game components to the box as they came out, and cards should be organized by type facing in one direction.
  • If there are missing components, notify me immediately so that we can create a facsimile for future games.
  • Do not use consoles for personal gaming; equipment is limited, and students need access for class purposes.
  • When shuffling cards, use the table riffle shuffle technique https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-71L3KoOI
  • Students are expected to obey student conduct when participating in play sessions and act with good sportsmanship. Homophobic, transphobic, and racist speech is not tolerated and should be reported immediately at report line
  • Game session length can vary, and students are only expected to complete an hour of gameplay in DMD 2500 Intro to Game Design. We encourage students to enjoy the rest of the game during the rental period. Do not check out material multiple days in a row.
  • Do not put boardgames, consoles, or video games in library drop boxes, only use the reference desk.

How do I borrow games?

Go to the iDesk on the Plaza Level of the Babbidge Library. Tell the iDesk staff that you are in DMD 2500 and ask for the specific game that you want. That's it!
