Searching for an H Index in Scopus

Scopus is a subscription only citation database which offers many author- and article-based metrics. To access Scopus at the University of Connecticut, go through the Library's home page (lib.uconn.edu) and click on Research Databases. Click the tab "By Database Name" and add "Scopus" to the search blank. Then click on the link for Scopus.

Author Search in Scopus

Scopus offers a specific "Authors" search option above the search blanks. Click on that and fill in the name and affiliation for the author to be searched. For UConn authors use either the city name "Storrs" or the institutional name "University of Connecticut."

Author Details Page in Scopus

The author details page provides lots of interesting information. The H index is in the top right corner. This number will only be accurate if all of the correct articles and only the correct articles have been associated with the author. Mistakes can only be corrected by the author. To correct any errors go to "Help" and search for the "Author Feedback Wizard." Click on the "View H-graph" link.

Author Results in Scopus

The results for an author search will list any author in Scopus which contains the variables searched. Under each author are listed variants of that author's name included in Scopus To the right are the number of documents affiliated with that author - this may or may not be correct. Also included are subject categories into which the documents fall. Click on the author name.

H Index Graph in Scopus

The H index graph page shows how the h index is calculated, in addition to lots of other interesting author related information and metrics.
