Topic: Writing Hartford Initiative — Citing Media

This guide includes resources to help you become more acquainted with Hartford, CT. It also provides a collection of free tools and equipment that allow you to record your experiences as you explore the capitol city.

Why Cite?

  • To avoid plagiarism.
    Give credit to the creator of the image, video, or sound recording, even if you have permission to use it.
     
  • To direct others to the item (your professor; someone interested in learning more).
    Be sure to include all the information needed to find it.
     
  • To strengthen your work and give it more credibility.

Citation Elements

The citation will generally contain the following elements:

  •       Creator’s name (artist, photographer, etc.)
  •        Title of the image
  •        Date the image was created or published
  •        Institution (gallery, museum) where the image is located / owned (if applicable)
  •        Date of access (the date you accessed the online image)
  •        Location of the image (URL or DOI number)
