Pre-application meetings: Home

What are pre-application meetings?

Pre-application meetings are important for applicants and the town to communicate and plan ahead of time.
As much as possible, efforts should be made to accommodate applicant’s schedule.

Community Example

The Town of Manchester has a website that includes a PDF document for a pre-application review meeting for land-use. Applicants have to submit this form to Manchester’s Zoning and Planning Commission for approval. This meeting is necessary to make sure the applicant is meeting the board’s requirements and restrictions. This meeting is also essential to discuss timeframes so there isn’t any miscommunication between the town of Manchester and the applicant. The town of New Milford also encourages applicants to meet with the Development Services Team (DST), an informal pre-application meeting with representatives from different town departments including Aquifer Protection, Building, Economic Development, Fire Marshall, Health, Inland Wetlands, Planning, Public Works, Sewer, and Zoning. Applicants including property and business owners, engineers, attorneys, realtors, and other land-use and development professionals can present and discuss any new projects at these meetings and acquire feedback. Information on state and local land use codes, ordinances, regulations, permitting process, and the application process will also be provided at these meetings.
