Chemistry Subject Guide — Handbooks, Dictionaries & Encyclopedias

How to use Chemistry Reference Sources

Chemical handbooks, dictionaries, and encyclopedias provide information on a variety of chemical resources and chemistry techniques.  Use these as a quick reference to obtain information such as chemical numbers, measurements, laboratory technique, or properties.

  • Do you need to know the melting point of a chemical?
  • Do you need to know the proper laboratory method for the distillation in your experiment?
  • Do you need to research which materials are best for your project?

These are just some examples of the uses for these reference sources! There are also many more in the library beyond what is listed here. If you need help finding information for your work, please contact me and I will be happy to help!

Did you know the library has a Scan on Demand service where you can request chapters of print items to be scanned and emailed to you? Use this service if you are unable to come to the library but need information from one of these print resources.
