How will I communicate this policy to publishers?

What is a waiver?

Authors may choose to opt out of this policy for any reason, e.g., if their preferred publication venue refuses to comply with the policy. To request a waiver, simply submit this form. Authors will receive a response in 3-5 business days.

Do you provide assistance with negotiating with publishers?

Yes, please email us to request assistance via scholcomm[at]uconn.edu. Authors can also review this guide to negotiating with publishers.

How will I communicate this policy to publishers?

To the extent feasible, the Library will notify publishers of this policy. Authors may also link to the policy, once posted on the library’s website, when communicating with publishers. The Library will provide a template for authors to use when communicating with publishers.

What if I am asked to sign an incompatible publishing agreement?

Most publishers allow authors to request changes to the agreement. If an author is not sure, contact the journal editor.

Who oversees this policy?

The Library’s Scholarly Communication Coordinating Group handles routine questions, waivers, and minor adjustments to the policy. The Dean of the Library oversees the policy. Significant revisions to the policy will be brought to the entire library staff for a vote to endorse those changes.
